Description:
This workshop explores the importance of the relationship in supervision and the supervisor’s role in companioning with the supervisee. The workshop explores the significance of vulnerability and authenticity in the supervisee relationship. Stemming from postmodern and constructivist tenets, the workshop explores the infusion of solution-focused and solution focused theoretical perspectives into the supervisory role. The use of sand tray and metaphoric drawings in supervision will be introduced and participants will be given the opportunity of experiencing the technique.
Upon conclusion of the workshop,
- Participants will understand the paradigm of companioning as a template for the supervisory role and embrace the importance of authenticity and vulnerability in the supervisory relationship.
- Participants will gain knowledge of postmodern and constructivist supervisory constructs and their infusion into supervisory theory and application.
- Participants will observe the application of Solution Focused Supervision
- Participants will learn about and apply the technique of sand tray and metaphoric drawings in the supervisory process.

About the Presenter:
Paula J. Britton, Ph.D.
Paula J. Britton, Ph.D. is professor Emeritus at the Clinical Mental Health program at John Carroll University, where she worked for 29 years as the Practicum/Internship Coordinator. She currently provides training in clinical supervision for clinicians seeking and maintaining their supervision endorsement. She is a licensed psychologist and a PCC_S, with over 30 years of diverse clinical experience including being an administrator and supervisor in a family service agency, and a project director of a large research grant. She maintains a small private practice. She has given over 100 local, state, and national professional presentations, and workshops in the areas of supervision and ethics, as well as the author of numerous publications.
