October 29, 2022– 10 A.M. TO 2 P.M.
Stark County’s Drug Take Back Day
Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery, Drug Free Stark County, the Opiate and Addiction Task Force of Stark County, and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Stark County Police Chiefs’ Association, and Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District, are pleased to sponsor this collection day for Stark County residents to dispose of their expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications safely. Police officials will be on-site to collect the meds and dispose of them without harming the environment. This program is completely anonymous no questions will be asked and no identification is needed.
Since 2010, over 80,000 pounds of unneeded or expired medication have been collected during Stark County’s Drug Take Back Days and permanent drug collection box program. Through 2014, this successful collaboration was held on the national Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Drug Take Back Day in the fall and spring each year. In 2015, this effort became all local with help from Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery, Drug Free Stark County, Stark County Sheriff’s Office, Tri-County Waste Management District, Stark County Police Chiefs’ Association, Mercy, and Aultman Hospitals. This year, the decision was made to scale down the event and re-align with the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day to be part of the larger drug disposal movement taking place across the county.
Community members who participate in Drug Take Back Day will also receive a medication deactivation pouch to help dispose of unwanted medications right at home. (Available while supplies last).
