About the training:
Treating trauma can be toxic to providers and agencies alike.  Secondary trauma is real and impacts treatment, staff, and administration.  In addition to the ongoing stress of the much-needed work we do, COVID 19 still lives among us, for now, like an invisible enemy whose influence is only seen through its impact.  Knowing it is out there but being unable to clearly see it, creates a primary stress response in all of us.  The paradox of this pandemic is that when stressed humans have a biological drive to flock toward safe others, which when done in traditional ways (physical connection) can be one of the most dangerous things we can do.  Dealing with both primary and secondary stress at the same time is a unique situation of a time for many of us right now.  This training will explore how to promote healing and hope in those we serve, our staff, each other, and ourselves.  Develop skills for coaching to help us walk with and empower those we support instead of rescuing them.  Explore the origins of the differences between, and ways to, address vicarious trauma, secondary trauma, and burnout in our staff and ourselves.  As well as its impact on the agency and what can be done about it.  We will look at what research tells us, what our work experiences have shown us and develop a plan to assist us, our staff and those we serve in negotiating this work that is as challenging as it is needed.

Objectives and Agenda:  Upon completion of this training participants will be able to:
9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.         Identify and address vicarious trauma, secondary trauma and burnout in the workplace and its impact on staff, supervision, administration, the agency, and those served.
9:45 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.       Explore structural, systemic, and synergistic stressors, how to recognize and reduce them at work, for staff and those served.
10:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.    Break
10:45 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.    Identify and address the importance of felt safety and how to create it for staff and administration.
11:20 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.    Discuss the Fear Cascade including COVID’s impact on it and explore ways to move onto the Cliffs of Safety.
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.      Lunch
1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.        Assist supervisors, staff, and administrators in helping those they serve move onto the Empowerment Triangle while recognizing and addressing the challenges connected with their work.
1:45 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.        Use of resilience-based interventions to assist those we serve and ourselves in regulating during chronic, uncertain stress.
2:30 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.        Break
2:45 p.m. – 3:20 p.m.        Identify the five good things found in mutually enhancing relationships and how to use them for self-care and celebrate ways you accomplished them even from a distance when needed.
3:20 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.        Develop a Leadership and self-care plan for themselves and an approach to coach supervisees do the same.
