Trainer: Michael Fox – Research Associate/Trainer at Case western Reserve University

Who should attend: Clinicians who provide services to youth with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

About this event: This 3-hour training is presented from the specialized perspective of providing clinical services to youth with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Broadly, this training aspires to increase clinical recognition for the high prevalence of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders in youth.  It is also intended to initiate/reinforce increased considerations regarding the importance of conducting regular screenings and performing developmentally appropriate assessments.  Components of these broader goals include: prevalence of mental health and substance use disorders in addition to trauma and victimization for youth; developmental considerations regarding approaches to screening, assessment and diagnostic understanding; and exploration of specific tools for both screening and assessing youth.

Objectives

  1. Describe current research regarding youth with co-occurring disorders and list factors that differentiate youth from adults.
  2. Describe how physical, social and personality development factors during adolescence can be dramatically impacted by substance use/abuse.
  3. Describe Screening and Assessment from an integrated perspective
  4. List at three each: Screening and Assessment tools designed for an adolescent population; consider an integrated approach.

This training is one of four in a course of trainings by Mr. Fox occurring on Friday August 14, 21, 28 and September 4, 2020.  You can attend all four or select the trainings you want to attend.  You must register individually for each training you want to attend.

Location – Held via Zoom. Registrants will receive a link the week before.

Cost – This is a free training.
