StarkMHAR has canceled trainings scheduled through April 12, 2020. This move aligns with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s proactive approach to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). StarkMHAR appreciates that the situation is fluid and changing rapidly and we are working hard to address emerging concerns. I understand that most local businesses have followed suit and have limited their employees ability to attend community events, including trainings. Attendees will not be assessed a no-show fee for trainings falling within this time frame as these are extenuating circumstances and outside of anyone’s control and StarkMHAR has chosen to cancel. StarkMHAR will continue to monitor the environment and assess the situation daily regarding trainings and events scheduled past April 12. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.

Who should attend: Open to housing and support staff.
About the training: Assisting individuals to consider and embark upon behavioral changes that promote recovery is an important foundational skill for all providers. The purpose of the training is to promote in providers a heightened sense of self-awareness regarding their impact and influence on the change process of the people they serve. Participants will be asked to focus less on their clients’ change process and focus more on how their own beliefs, perceptions, behaviors and chosen forms of communication that influence their work.
Participants will engage in reflective exercises and dialogue designed to assist them in uncovering personal and professional expectations that influence how they relate to others. They will be introduced to the key elements of the engaging process and practice skill-building exercises designed to assist them in utilizing person-centered approaches in change discussions. Participants will also identify their own behaviors that lead to disengagement and barriers in clients’ change processes, as well as what leads staff to continually practice these behaviors. Participants will what would lead them personally and professionally to practice person-centered approaches when working with the individuals they serve. The Center for Evidence-Based Practices makes an attempt to incorporate exercises and examples specific to the unique practice settings of participants, with an emphasis on individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorders.
