Presented by Adam Lesser, LCSW, Deputy Director of The Columbia Lighthouse Project

Who should attend: Mental Health Providers, Physicians, Hospital staff, Crisis Evaluators, Police, Fire, EMS, Court, Social Workers, Clergy, Schools, Military, Substance Abuse, Homeless and Domestic Violence Shelter Staff.

About the training: Since its implementation, C-SSRS helped reduce suicide rate by 65% over the first ten months in the Tennessee programs of the nation’s largest provider of outpatient community behavioral health care.  Improved questioning using the C-SSRS also reduces over-identification of risk seen with measures that combine ideation and behavior and do not distinguish suicidal and non-suicidal behavior.

Asking about suicide risk cannot be the province of solely specialists if we are to have a successful National Suicide Prevention Strategy and violence reduction.  Knowing that you can ask and knowing how to ask about suicide risk are two key messages that will change how many lives are saved and protected from the effects of violence. The C-SSRS is an effective and feasible tool that can be used by anyone across all sectors of society.  It is part of the toolkit for Zero Suicide recommended by the National Action Alliance.
